On average, we pay our foster carers £453 per week which can increase to £681 per week.

Round the clock support, 14 days annual leave plus an amazing local community.

Myth Busting

A lot of people have asked us if they can foster as a part of the LGBTQIA+ community and the answer is YES! Your sexual orientation and gender identity does not affect your right to foster a child. Anyone can have a hugely positive impact on a fostered child.

Whether you are in a relationship or single, the most important thing is that you can provide a child with a loving and safe home. We are interested in your values, character and ability to provide the best care for local children.

Some of our children in care may identify as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community themselves. Our foster carers who are also part of this community are invaluable support. You can also be a positive role model for them.

It couldn’t be easier to discuss your fostering journey with us. Book a call back with us today to discover your options.

Fostering is for everyone

Everyone is welcome at Fostering Rotherham. We celebrate diversity and inclusion and we
champion this in everything we do. We encourage all people, no matter your gender or sexual orientation, to apply to become foster carers. Rotherham is a diverse and wonderful place and we want our team of amazing foster carers to reflect this.

This is why we encourage people from all walks of life to apply to foster with us.

“I disclosed my sexuality early on in the assessment process and I felt comfortable to do so. Fostering Rotherham has a wide variety of demographics represented. LGBTQ+ foster carers and children have a safe place to develop unhindered and well-supported. At no point has my sexuality been a barrier to care. If anything it’s helped me understand and support children who are confused about their sexuality.”

How are you assessed as a foster carer?

We believe that it is your personal qualities that matter most and make you a great foster carer. At Fostering Rotherham, we are proud to have a diverse cohort of foster carers.

We aim to provide a safe, welcoming and supportive service to all new foster carers. From the initial call, through the assessment process. And right the way through to a child being welcomed into your home.

“We are a same sex couple just starting out in foster care. Our experience so far with the assessment has been an extremely positive one. While the assessment was very in depth, we found [it] was addressed with sensitivity, respect and an understanding. We never once felt judged. We recommend anyone in a same-sex relationship, who are thinking of sharing their home and family with a child, to contact the RMBC fostering team.”

We are always looking to speak to people who can provide a stable and safe place for a child or young person. If you think that is you, then we’d love to hear from you.
